M&S' Saviour Suede Skirt

April 08, 2015

Marks & Spencer's has always been know for great food and terrible fashion. While their Percy Pig's and cookies were a hit from the beginning, the retailer has never quite succeeded in creating stylish clothes: until now. In February, both Alexa Chung and Oliva Palermo were spotted in M&S' new suede skirt, months before the skirt comes out. Due to be released this Friday, 10th April, the trendy skirt will only be for sale in the chain's top 100 shops, at an uncharacteristically expensive price of £199.

Channelling this season's 70s trend, the skirt is mid-length and so it is smarter than the shorter A-line skirts of the 60s, and can be worn both in and outside of an office. The skirt has sparked some controversy, with the likes of Jane Asher disliking the coveted skirt. However, similar skirts were seen throughout designers' SS15 collections, including Chloé's denim version, and Jason Wu's olive suede skirt. Whether it be buttoned-up, split, suede or denim, I think it's safe to say that a long 70s skirt is this season's staple piece.
