Kenzo's creative directors, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, chose the legendary photographer Jean-Paul Goude to take control of the campaign. You may not recognise his name, but you'll recognise his work - Goude is responsible for the internet-breaking cover of Kim Kardashian for Paper magazine back in 2014. The photographer chose seven diverse icons as the faces of the Kenzo x H&M campaign: Iman, the legendary supermodel and widow of David Bowie, actress and activist Rosario Dawson, Chance the Rapper, Japanese musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, Chloë Sevigny, Vietnamese rapper Suboi and the 16 year old activist Xiuhtezcatl Martinez.
The collection is characteristically crazy. Kenzo is known for its use of colour and print, and this collection is no disappointment. Leon and Lim "wanted to really tell the story of the brand" by creating a collection that celebrates individuality and self-expression. While the clothing itself is stunning, the presentation in New York was even bigger and brighter.
Opening with classical music, curtains dropped and a Sam Spiegel remix of NWA's "Express Yourself" took over, with models breaking out into choreographed dance along side a marching band. The fashion show was nothing short of outstanding.
No doubt the collection will sell out quickly when it hits 250 H&M stores worldwide and online, including College Green in Dublin, at 9am on November 3rd.
